Working from Home: Yay or Nay
Over the past decade, many companies have begun to allow their employees to work from home. With recent advances in the tech, including the Web, emails, cheaper fax machines, modems and intranets, some people rarely go into the main office anymore. Would you change your coworkers for a peaceful and warm home office? Here are some certain benefits that any employ would love.
Your Office Can Be Any Kind. You may don’t have a boss or coworkers around you, but that doesn’t mean that you need to have a desk full of books, clunky desk or ugly chair. You can fit your office wherever it fits. For instance, you can turn your closet into a hidden office or use the space under the stairs.
Your Schedule Can Be Your Own. Employees that are allowed to work from home almost always have a flexible schedule. For instance, if you are content creator or web developer, you can most likely do your writing or coding whenever you want as long as you meet your deadlines. So, if you are not a morning person, then this way of working is ideal for you. You can also organize your breaks and do something that you are not allowed in a traditional office – play a few tunes on your guitar, bust some samba moves, or take a refreshing power nap.
You Can Stay More Focused. Those who work from home don’t have colleagues that stop by every 10 minutes just to ask a question. When you are working from home, you need to grab a cup of coffee and concentrate on your tasks. And if you have chat groups, then you can change your status to “do not disturb”.
You Can Avoid Wearing Uniforms. Almost in every company there is a boring dress code. If you are not a white shirt and black pants person, then this is the ideal job for you. You can stay even in your pajamas all day long and no one will know it. You won’t also have coworkers that are arguing or gossiping too, which is a huge bonus for you.
You Can Actually Have Enjoyable and Effective Meetings. No amount of donuts and coffee can make up for having to sit in a large conference room full of people. When you work from home, you just need to click on your computer and you will have 10 people on a video call that will probably last less than a half hour instead of two hours meeting. The benefit of such calls is that you can instantly share docs or add comments without interrupting anyone.
EXTRA TIPS FOR WORKING AT HOME
Those who have worked in an office and in a home office or bedroom know that it takes special discipline to work at home. Before you start working remotely, you need to ask yourself “Does this type of work fit in with what you want”. If you decide to work from home, it is important to keep these things on mind:
Be consistent with your hours and get dressed as you would for work. Act like you are at the office and not at home.
Treat your working area like a real office.
Maintain a presence at the main office. Let your boss know you are productive.
